HILL WORKS WITH HEGARTY ON TWO SPECIAL HARDOX HITCHES

Manufacturer helped contractor fine-tune its requirements.

When specialist contractor Hegarty Demolition needed some expert advice about what coupler would be best for their nine-tonne excavators there was only one company they had in mind – Hill Engineering.

Hegarty, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, had recently purchased a new NPK 670kg demolition shear and were keen to ensure that whatever coupler they used to pick it up could safely handle the task.

Hill’s engineering manager Neal Loughran and aftersales manager Gerry Mulgrew were happy to make the trip from their base in Newry, County Down, to Hegarty’s in Rathfarnham near Dublin to meet plant manager David Richardson and assess the new shear and the application it was being asked to deliver.

David said: “Hill has been making excavator couplers for more than 25 years and it quickly became clear from our conversations that they could develop a solution for us.

“They recommended the use of a special hitch design, incorporating extensive use of high strength Hardox steel to ensure durability and reliability, which is critically important to us. We have now purchased two of these special couplers which are working faultlessly.

“The service received from Hill, especially from sales manager William McIntosh, is simply second to none. We shall continue to use Hill for all of our excavator couplers because both their Tefra products and the overall service provided is amongst the best I have ever received.”

William explained that Hill has a department dedicated to investigating the unique demands of unusual applications and making recommendations to satisfy the customer’s needs in such situations.

He said: “We have been working with David and Hegarty Demolition for some time now and I was pleased to receive his enquiry as we pride ourselves on being able to offer bespoke solutions where these are needed, using the extensive experience within our team here.”

Hegarty Demolition was formed in 1990 in response to the massive growth in urban development experienced by Sean Hegarty Earthworks which had been founded 20 years earlier, specialising in earth moving, site development, civil engineering and plant machinery hire.

Hegarty Demolition provides demolition, basement construction, building conservation and civil engineering services. Its involvement in prestigious commercial projects such as the redevelopment of Temple Bar, Croke Park and Dublin Docklands has since established it as a major player in these areas.
